Two 7 (8) – 0 thrashings saw Bar 22 and The Queen Inn take a two-point lead at the top of the Ormskirk & District Pool League. Bar 22 saw off the Farmers while the Queen Inn beat La Cantina B.

Being involved in one of those defeats I know how disappointing that is but the Farmers had three players new to the league this season while of course La Cantina B are completely new the league. I am sure that as the players get used to league play those results will improve, so don’t despair lads and lassies!

The Bridge occupies the third medal place at this early stage after a 5 (6) – 2 victory over the Stanley Club. The weeks other big winners La Cantina A who beat the Bridge Dogs by the same margin.

The other two matches were decided by the odd frame, with the Queens Head triumphing over Shaw Hall while the Railway lost out to 22 club. The boys and girls from ‘22’ occupy fourth spot at this early stage.

Quite a number of players are challenging for the player of the year with several players showing 100% success in their singles games, last year’s winner John Weston is right up there again with 4 wins out of 4. To qualify for player of the year you have to play in at least 66% of the available matches. Other players winning all 4 are Craig Caunce, Martin Gallego and David Taylor. Quite a few others have won all the games they have played so far.

Jason Ken recorded the first 7 ball of the new season, potting all his balls in one visit, Jason will get a trophy for his efforts. Still chance for others to get a trophy, but you can only win it once in a season – so no need to try anymore then Mr Ken, especially when you play the Farmers?

One more week of league fixtures before we break for the first round of the league singles on the 10th October.
