St Anne’s school, Ormskirk launched its annual ‘Walk to School Week’ yesterday - with one teacher putting her best foot forward for an extra special journey to work!
And instead of her usual 20 minute car journey from Formby, Katrina Williams was up extra early to walk almost ten miles to the school accompanied on the last leg from Clieves Hill by governor Dermot Glennon.
She was also raising money on her ‘Just Giving’ page for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, a charity currently close to the heart of the school community.
This week, pupils are being encouraged, by Miss Williams’ unique Walk-a-thon, to walk to school as often as possible, learning how they can all make a small change to benefit their health - and take care of the environment.
At 9:00am, pupils, parents and staff lined the entrance to school, cheering Miss Williams ‘home’ as she walked the final steps of her journey. She was in good spirits and thanked her many friends who encouraged her along the way to help and support her – one nice touch was a special celebration cake presented by a fellow member of staff.
So far, she’s managed to raise an eye-popping £1,500 for Alder Hey, smashing her target right out the park!
And well done St Anne’s for another brilliant example of its ‘community spirit’ in action!
