Thursday 5th July was a very special date for approximately 60 year six pupils from seven local primary schools!

It was the presentation of certificates and badges for their successful completion of the Rotary Junior Community Award, organised by the Rotary Club of Ormskirk.

The event was at The Civic and attended by Mayor Noel Delaney, Ann Stubbert, the Mayoress, Rotarian Beryl Cotton, immediate past Rotary District Governor and was the first official engagement for the very newly appointed President of the Rotary Club of Ormskirk, John McCormick.

All of the children had successfully carried out and completed activities and projects involving Community Service, Physical Recreation, Social Experiences and the Development of Personal Skills and displays of their fantastic work were on display at the presentation.

The Rotary Junior Community Award was started in Australia and was introduced to the UK by Mr John Hayes, who was at the presentation. Although widely adopted by Rotary clubs in Australia, the Rotary Club of Ormskirk is one of only a few Rotary clubs in the UK who run the award.

This was the 12th year that this has been run in Ormskirk and President John McCormick said that, in order to continue this for another 12 years, new members are needed; he described Rotary as the best social club in the world that also puts a massive amount back into the community.
