A large contingent of Ormskirk supporters travelled to Nantwich in the hope of seeing their team progress to the televised Finals Day at Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
Unfortunately, their hopes were dashed when the team was soundly beaten by a strong home side and have to wait another year for a chance to bring the trophy to Brook Lane.
Ormskirk batted first and scored a disappointing 102 runs in the allotted 20 overs which was down mainly to some indifferent batting but also to some good bowling and excellent fielding.
From the loss of the first wicket it was an uphill struggle to maintain a decent run rate that would seriously challenge the home team. The only two batsmen who challenged the bowling and fielding were Owen Griffiths (23) and Gary Knight (27). Five batsmen went out to catches and two were unnecessarily run out.
To nobody’s surprise the Nantwich batsmen made light work of reaching the winning target, losing only 3 wickets and with 5 overs to spare.
It was a disappointing end to a good Cup Run but it has to be said, that on the day, there could be no arguing that the better team won.
