Famous motoring experts to commentate and judge at the Omrksirk MotorFest

Former Top Gear presenter Steve Berry and legendary motor racing commentator Neville Hay will be sharing their expert knowledge with motor racing fans at the 2017 Ormskirk MotorFest on Sunday 27 August.

The MotorFest is one of the North West’s biggest free family events, and thousands of people are expected to come to Ormskirk to enjoy this fantastic motoring extravaganza. About 300 fabulous cars and motorcycles from all eras of motoring will be on display and many of them will take part in exciting parade laps around the town centre.

Steve and Neville will be commentating on parade laps at the free motoring extravaganza and also judging in the Concours d’Elegance, a special competition for the very best cars in the MotorFest.

Neville has been involved with the MotorFest since it began in 2011 and has had a long career in commentating. His company, Neville Hay Ltd., now owned by his son, Richard, televised events all over the world. Neville began working as a commentator at club circuits in the UK, including Aintree where the British Grand Prix was held between 1955 and 1962. His skills at the microphone led him to work at major international events such as Grand Prix, the Le Mans and Spa 24 hour races. Between 1975 and 1991 he worked for BBC Radio and commentated on a number of Motor Sport events. He has also worked in television on the Indianapolis 500 in the United States, World Powerboats and for Channel 7 in Australia, commentating on the famous Bathurst Race.

Neville helped to judge the first ever MotorFest Concours d’Elegance Pin 2015, a role he was well-suited to given his experience of judging in the European Concours d’Elegance in the 2000s.

Neville said: “I am looking forward to coming to MotorFest again this year. The events I have been involved in have been a great success. Getting involved with classic cars is a fantastic hobby whether you have a Jaguar or a Morris 1000, and your budget need not affect the amount of enjoyment you and your whole family can get from it.”

Steve was a presenter on Top Gear for 10 years and one of the highlights for him included driving a rare racing Jaguar worth £1.7 million. His other media work includes presenting Speedshop for FAB Radio.

Steve became involved in MotorFest through his friend Sean Bramhall.

He commentated on last year’s parade laps and also helped with the judging for the Concours d’Elegance.

Steve said: “I really enjoyed coming to the Ormskirk MotorFest in 2016 and I am really looking forward to coming again this year to see all the fantastic cars and motorbikes on display. It is a great family day out so come along and enjoy the fun.”

Ormskirk MotorFest is organised by Aintree Circuit Club and supported by West Lancashire Borough Council.

Mike Ashcroft, Chairman of Aintree Circuit Club, said: “I am delighted both Steve and Neville will be joining us at the MotorFest this year to give us all the benefit of their expertise. Their knowledge adds something special to our great event.”

Councillor John Hodson, Council portfolio holder whose responsibilities include the MotorFest, said: “It will be great have Steve and Neville back at the MotorFest again this year.

“Many thousands of visitors are expected to come to Ormskirk for the MotorFest, We hope that town centre businesses will take advantage of this great opportunity and open up on MotorFest day.”
