This week saw Southport Conservative Club increase their lead at the top of the First Division of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. This time around they ended their evening with a terrific 6-0 demolition of Stanley Club A, incredibly their seventh 'perfect result' of the current season. This outcome sees them extended their lead to three points but, very importantly, still have a match in hand over their nearest rivals and are well on course to seal that sixth successive league title. The match also saw Southport's Chris Hoare continue his tremendous form of late with a brilliant break of 60 in his frame success. Also, it should be noted that Southport's Paddy Tyndall & Gareth 'The Machine' Hibbott were in marvellous nick with Paddy compiled an awesome break of 54 whilst Gareth engineered superb breaks of 46 & 42 in their respective frame wins. In fact, Chris and Gareth are in line to top the Divisional Player Rankings list this term as they both currently stand with fifteen wins apiece from fifteen matches played to date.

Olympic BC B continue to produce excellent results and this particular week they recorded a solid 5-1 triumph at the expense of Skelmersdale Wardens A. The result sees them sit those three points off the pace but no doubt will continue to push the leaders very hard. The match saw Olympic B's Paul Williams in fine form with a very classy contribution of 55 in his frame victory and he continues to head the Player Rankings table with sixteen successes from seventeen matches contested so far.

Maghull RBL A continue in remarkable form as they produced their third consecutive 'full house' this week. This time they constructed a sensational 6-0 demolition of Olympic BC A and, amazingly, last dropped a league point way back on 16th January. This outcome sees them remain in third place in the league standings, ten points off top spot but a whole eleven points clear of the team directly below them. The match saw Olympic A's Jamie Ridge in good nick with a really nice break of 38 but unfortunately wasn't enough to seal the frame as he very narrowly lost it. Meanwhile, Maghull A's Chris Connolly was in great touch with breaks of 34 & 32 in his frame win.

Upholland Social continue in fourth position despite suffering a heavy 5-1 home defeat at the hands of Aughton Institute E. The result sees the Aughton E outfit unchanged in sixth
slot but they do have a match in hand over the team directly above them and two matches in hand over the Upholland Social side with point deficits of one and seven points respectively. The match also saw Aughton E's Robbie Wilson in wonderful form and continue his marvellous run of late as he compiled a magnificent break of 64 in his frame success to capture this week's 'Break of the Week' in a week of many fine contributions and his second of the current campaign to date.

Robbie's break began with a very solid red ball pot to gain ideal black position. He swiftly dispatched that black ball and very quickly took a further five reds, three with blacks and the other two with blue balls, with superb potting and pinpoint positional play to reach the forty four point mark. Robbie potted his next red into a middle pocket, coming down for position on the black ball again, but rather unfortunately the cue ball finished exceptionally close to the black he couldn't pot it. He decided to take on a difficult, long range yellow ball pot into the yellow pocket and produced a terrific pot screwing around the angles to come back down the table for his next red. A further three reds and colours followed with some tremendous pots thrown in and he now reached sixty four with the final red of the frame remaining. He came a little awkward on that final red and he narrowly missed it to bring an end to a superb break.

Aughton Institute A are showing no signs of stopping as they continue to record some excellent results. This time around they reached double figures for wins as they comprehensively defeated Rainford X SSC 5-1 and this very solid effort sees them continuing in fifth spot in the league table. Also, after recent results especially this week, have become clear favourites to lift the Division One Merit league crown.

The other match played this time around saw the bottom two teams clash in Scarisbrick NSC and St Cuthberts and at the end of a tense battle it saw the Halsall outfit prevail with a 4-2 victory. This outcome was enough to see the St Cuthberts boys move up one place in the league proceedings and out of the relegation zone.

Maghull RBL B sat out their free week this time.

Other notable breaks this week were – S A Hughes (Maghull RBL A) 36, D O'Hara (Aughton Institute E) 35, T Stevenson (Olympic BC B) 35 & M Mullane (Stanley Club A) 31.

The Division One merit table now sees new leaders as Aughton Institute A take over at the top of the pile after a solid victory this particular week, they lie on 102 points and have an all important match in hand over their three nearest rivals. Scarisbrick NSC drop into second place after defeat this time around and sit on 101 points. Upholland Social also drop down a spot and now occupy third position after their heavy defeat this week, they have 98 points.

The following matches need to be played no later than the end of March: Maghull RBL B v Aughton Inst E (Originally Scheduled Date - 12th September 2017) Maghull RBL B v Southport Con Club (Originally Scheduled Date - 17th October 2017) Skem Wardens A v Aughton Inst A (Originally Scheduled Date - 5th December 2017)

Division 2

After this particular week's round of matches it sees Aughton Institute D continue to march strongly towards their maiden Division Two crown. This time they equalled their best result of the current season with a tremendous 6-0 demolition over club compatriots and title- chasing, Aughton Institute B. This was their second 'prefect' result of the campaign and could prove to be a pivotal week as they find themselves eight points clear at the summit of the league table and also have an important match in hand over their nearest rival. The Aughton B outfit drop into fourth spot in the table.

Aughton Institute C ended their night's work with defeat as they suffered a 4-2 reversal at the hands of Farmers Club. This outcome was enough to see them move into second position in the league standings and will surely try and push their club compatriots as hard as possible. The Ormskirk outfit continue in fifth slot. The match also saw Aughton C's captain, Dave Ball, in fine nick with a nice break of 25 in his frame success.

Skelmersdale Wardens B engineered their eighth victory of the season as they defeated Stanley Club C 4-2. This result saw them move up into third position in the league proceedings, nine points adrift of the pace-setters. This match saw Skelmersdale B's Larry Scholes in good touch with a nice break of 25 in his frame win. Also in terrific form was Skemersdale B's Adam Baker as he compiled fine breaks of 24 & 21 in his frame victory and must be mentioned that he won his frame without conceding a single point and I am confident this is a first in Division Two.

The other match played this time saw Stanley Club B and Skelmersdale Wardens C battle a 3-3 draw. The match saw Stanley B's Steve O'Hare in good form with a break of 20 in his frame success.

Other notable break this week was – M Pickles (Stanley Club C) 20.
