Southport Conservative Club continue to march towards that record-breaking sixth consecutive league title in the top flight of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. This time around they completed a 5-1 triumph over Scarisbrick NSC and that was without a full team of players as they were only able to field five men. This outcome sees them maintain their perfect 100% record as we now reach the Festive break and they hold a three point advantage. This match saw Southport's Paddy Tyndall in superb form with a terrific break of 68 to clinch this week's 'Break of the Week' prize, his second of the season to date.

Paddy's break began early in the frame when he potted a solid opening red ball from on the cushion to gain prime black ball position. Paddy potted the black and quickly added a further four reds and blacks with his very solid potting and precise positional touch and this quickly saw him reach the forty point mark. The real key shot of the break came when he nudged open a couple of reds situated by the pink to really open things up. A further four reds and solid pink ball pots into centre pockets followed, the last of which he tried to develop the final red of the frame but very narrowly missed it. This left Paddy a back double to try and continue this superb break and possibly compile a magnificent century but he came very close as he jawed that last red and this sadly brought an end to a tremendous contribution.

Olympic BC B remain firmly in the fight as they pursue their maiden Division One crown and this particular week it saw them end their evening with a superb 6-0 demolition of St Cuthberts, their second consecutive 'perfect' result and third of the current campaign so far. This result sees them close the gap on the leaders to those three points and it will certainly be a fight as we resume in the new year.

The third and fourth placed teams went into battle this week and it saw a resounding 5-1 victory for Upholland Social at the expense of Maghull RBL A. This outcome sees the Upholland outfit continue in fourth position in the league table but close to only a single
point behind the Maghull A team as they continue to have a superb season, the Maghull A side remain in third spot but now find themselves some thirteen points off the pace after
suffering their third successive defeat. The match saw Upholland's Dave Usher in top nick with a superb break of 46 in his frame success.

Aughton Institute E this week made it six wins on the bounce after a solid 4-2 success of an improving Stanley Club A of late and this result sees them move up into fifth slot in the league standings and they also have a match in hand over the four teams above them. A special mention in this match must go to Aughton E's Robbie Wilson as he produced a scintillating frame of snooker. Firstly, he engineered an excellent break of 45, missing an awkward red along the top cushion and, almost immediately, constructed a classy break of 57 just missing a tricky black ball for the clearance and he was certainly unlucky not to make it back-to-back 'Break of the Week' accolades. A special performance from Robbie!

The other match played this week saw Rainford X SSC seal their third win of the current season with a fine 4-2 away victory over Maghull RBL B. This outcome sees the Rainford lads move up a place in the league proceedings and into a mid-table eighth.

The final match scheduled this particular week between Skelmersdale Wardens A and Aughton Institute A was abandoned after the completion of the first two frames due to electrical difficulties and the table lights consistently flickering on and off. This match will now be played at a later date.

Olympic BC A sat out their free week this time around.

Other notable breaks this week were – G Hibbott (Southport Conservative Club) 49, M Brown (Southport Conservative Club) 39, C Hoare (Southport Conservative Club) 37, C Connolly (Maghull RBL A) 35 & A Jones (Maghull RBL A) 30.

The Division One merit table sees Scarisbrick NSC continue to lead the pack despite another heavy defeat this week but still increase their advantage again to four points, they now sit on 92 points. Olympic BC A remain in second position this time around after sitting out their free week, they continue to lie on 88 points. Rainford X SSC closed the gap on the team directly above them after a solid victory this particular week and maintain third spot as a result to be just a single point behind them and an important match in hand over them too, they have 87 points.

Division 2

Aughton Institute D continue to march towards the Division Two crown after another emphatic display this particular week. They ended their evening with a fine 5-1 away triumph at the expense of last season's Champions, Stanley Club B. This outcome sees them move a very healthy six points clear of their nearest rival as we reach the Christmas & New Year break and are certainly looking very well placed to go one better than last term. This match saw Aughton D's skipper, Vinnie Siner in good nick with a nice break of 22 in his frame success.

Aughton Institute C completed a 4-2 victory over Stanley Club C this time around and this particular result sees them move up two places in the league standings and into second position courtesy of the one win more they have only the side directly below them to sit
those six points off the pace-setters. They will certainly be looking to push on in the new year to put in a serious title challenge.

Farmers Club went into battle with Aughton Institute B this week and after a tense battle it saw honours even at the end of the match as a 3-3 stalemate was reached. In fact, the Ormskirk outfit will probably feel the happier team as they battled back from 2-0 down early in the encounter. The outcome sees both sides remain unchanged in league position as the Farmers boys continue in third place and the Aughton B team remain in fifth slot although they do have an important match in hand over the four sides above them. The match also saw Farmers Club Steve James in nice touch with a good break of 23 in his frame victory.

The other match played this week saw Skelmersdale Wardens B and Skelmersdale Wardens C clash in the Skelmersdale 'Derby' contest. The result was a slightly surprising one as Skelmersdale Wardens C recorded an excellent 4-2 win and this result sees them remain in sixth in the league table, the Skelmersdale B outfit drop into fourth spot but only one point behind the two sides directly above them.
