The Government's launched a glossy new website that's being promoted in national Neighbourhood Watch Week.
But it'll cut little ice with the good folk of Aughton, with local man Alan Lenton - watch co-ordinator for The Serpentine - consistently complaining about how poor Lancashire Constabulary's support is for 'neighbourhood watchers'.

In fact, if you're ever in Aldi, Burscough, you'll see one Lynn Wareing who used to be the NW co-ordinator for west Lancs. and took redundancy on the tills - so much for Lancon supporting community policing!

From the new look website: 'Traditional crimes such as burglary and car theft are now much less prevalent than they once were. But new types of criminal activity have sprung up to replace them, and these new crimes require new solutions if they are to be tackled effectively.
'Prevention is key, and strong communities where people know and look out for their neighbours is an excellent route to crime prevention.
'In fact, tackling loneliness and vulnerability is now a priority for the government as a way of reducing crime and building safer neighbourhoods. In 2017 the government even created a Minister for Loneliness.
'If people are lonely and have little or no social contact with others, they can become much more vulnerable to criminal activity.
'All of the issues above are specific problems that need to be addressed in order to make our communities safer.'
