Worrying news that a 71-year-old street pastor was 'knocked unconscious' when she intervened in an 'altercation' in Ormskirk town centre has given an added impetus to a special prayer meeting being held on Saturday at Cottage Lane Mission.
The woman was attacked when she tried to break up a dispute between two groups of people near Wetherspoons; Police described an 'altercation' involving around ten people.
The woman was taken to hospital after the attack, and has since recovered. Officers were called at about 10.25pm on Saturday to reports of an altercation between two groups on Derby Street, Ormskirk.
During the altercation, a 71-year-old woman who had tried to intervene was unfortunately knocked unconscious.
She has since recovered; an investigation is on-going and any witnesses are asked to call police on 101 quoting log number 1669 of June 16th.
The street pastors are volunteers from from local churches who patrol Ormskirk town centre between 10pm and 4am over the weekend; QLocal's Roger Blaxall's asked leader Dave Mutch for a statement.

The sad truth is Policing in Ormskirk is almost nil at the best of time! WLBC continue to allow planning for more and more drinking establishments attracting more and more late night revellers yet refuse to add the necessary infrastructure in support such as toilets, adequate Policing, environmental protection, taxi pickup monitoring. It’s outrageous! As far as licensing applications are concerned, WLBC never object, the Police almost never object, restrictions place on licences are not policed and almost impossible to enforce!
Authorities are letting down and in many cases ignoring the concerns of local residents who now feel it’s just a waist of time to object to planning application as their concerns are routinely ignored!
