Every once in a while throughout our lifetime we come across people and animals who break the mould. More often than not, with the right attention these people and animals tend to touch our lives in a way we never thought possible. This happened to the team at Woodlands Animal Sanctuary 10 years ago, when a non-descript black male cat was signed over to them when their owner had to move away. As you may know black cats can be very difficult to rehome and Gizmo also had his own plans to add to this!

Woodlands say that Gizmo has always had lots of personality which had made it more difficult to find him a home. However, seven years ago a gentleman called them wanting to meet their quirkiest and most unlikely to be rehomed cat.

Immediately Gizmo came to mind and a meeting was arranged for them. Despite the fact that Gizmo took enough blood from Ash that they could have performed a blood test, Ash, to his absolute credit still wanted to give him a chance of happiness!
Woodlands were pleased and amazed to hear that after some initial teething problems Gizmo & Ash lived amicably together for 7 years. Ash said Gizmo settled quickly and they became very attached to each other - so much so that when Ash went on holiday Gizmo was so upset that he pulled the fur out of his back (Excessive self-grooming due to stress). Ash soon came to realise that Gizmo was going to rule his life and holidays were no longer an option! They were truly devoted to one another.

At the beginning of January this year Woodlands Animal Sanctuary received a phone call out of the blue to inform them that Ash had very sadly passed away. This left Gizmo alone and abandoned by the one he loved. As per the charity’s promise to all the cats they rehome and their fosterers, Gizmo was brought back to the shelter to be cared for by the team until a suitable home could be found. The team of staff and trustees discussed Gizmo becoming a permanent resident at the shelter but did not feel that this would be the most suitable outcome for him.

Therefore, they have begun the search to find a suitable home for this quirky, beautiful and misunderstood cat. Could you be the answer to Woodlands and Gizmos prayers?

Woodlands Animal Sanctuary say that Gizmo needs to live with adults who have no visiting children or other pets. He must have access to a garden and ideally someone who is at home a lot but is prepared to give Gizmo the space he needs to be himself. Gizmo has had blood tests done to check all his vitals, because he is an older gentleman (approx. 15yrs old) and the charity have been given the all clear by the vet to start the search for a new home for him.
