This is the aftermath of yet another serious accident at one of the most dangerous junctions in west Lancashire.
Two cars - a Nissan Juke and Toyota Yaris - collided outside Scarisbrick Hall's entrance at 8.30am today - one of its busiest times.
Police closed the road for over an hour while casualties were treated - a lady from the Juke suffered a broken leg while two ladies in the Yaris were described as 'walking wounded'; the Air Ambulance attended but was not needed.
"The County Council keeps promising to do something at this junction," observed a traffic officer wryly as he shovelled up the mess.
And how long before Scarisbrick Hall School's asked to put its hands in its pocket to pay for either peak time traffic lights or a mini roundabout at its entrance?

The junction isn't dangerous, it is the vehicle drivers who cause the accidents by being unobservant or too impatient!

It is - if you are turning right out of Gorsuch Lane onto Southport Road - that corner is a blind corner. You can only see cars coming when they have rounded the corner so you have to chance that nothing is coming for a good few minutes when you pull out.
A simple solution would be to alter where Gorsuch Lane meets the main road - they could just shift the junction along the straight part a bit (i.e towards the marina) increasing the visibility for the turning dramatically !! All the council would have to do is buy a bit of meadow.

What utter hysterical garbage, in a ‘good few minutes’, you would be the other side of Ormskirk.

Rubbish, you have a better view from Gorsuch Lane, the difficulty is pulling out of the school.

pmsl.
If you can't negotiate that junction safely you shouldn't be driving and need to have your driving skills reassessed by an examiner.

If you are going to move the junction, move it towards Southport, that will give improved visibility to traffic coming from Southport, but is that the junction in question? or more likely the entrance (and exit) from Scarisbrick Hall School, otherwise the junction from Gorsuch lane is OK.

How about driving according to the rules of the road?
This applies more specifically to a certain 'mother' in a Mercedes-Benz ML who regularly tears along Drummersdale Lane (with a child in Scarisbrick Hall uniform in said vehicle) attired in pyjamas who seems to think it's OK to verbally abuse drivers in oncoming vehicles who don't yield when she tries to force her way past parked cars against the flow of traffic to get to the school. Yes, I have it on my dashcam - all of it...
I see the same behaviour on Damwood Lane, both entering & leaving the back way to the school; mornings & afternoons. IT'S A SCHOOL. YOU'RE NOT ABOVE THE LAW BECAUSE OF THE BADGE ON YOUR CAR. OBEY THE LAW OR THE POLICE WILL BE INFORMED. It's that simple.

Its not just the school that uses that entrance.
If you exit from it you are at the mercy of drivers paying attention or not to the plethora of signage and road markings as they head towards it from the Southport direction.
Any vehicle that hits one exiting from that entrance has ignored the signage and gone too fast around a blind bend.
I would expect them to be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention.
