Merseyside Police has thanked the public for helping to make the Giants event a success on Saturday.
Superintendent Mark Morgan said: "We recognise that the ‘Liverpool’s Dream’ Giants event has, as expected and planned for, proved extremely popular.
"There were large crowds today and our officers, stewards and event organisers have worked hard to ensure all those attending remained safe.
"The behaviour of the public has been excellent throughout the event and we would like to thank them for their co-operation and patience, which has enabled visitors to enjoy the day and helped to create a celebratory and good-natured atmosphere for all.
"We would ask that visitors coming to see the Giant Spectacular on Sunday plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.Photo 2018 10 06 11 49 19"There will be road closures in place, and we join organisers in asking that people continue to use public transport to see the event, with extra bus and train services laid on to help get the crowds to and from the city centre.”

Just got back from a fantastic day out in Liverpool watching the giants. Very well organised considering the volume of people there. Nothing to criticise at all. Liverpool was the perfect venue for them and proves that it is still a centre of excellence for arts and culture. Well done to all those who organised this spectacular event👍

Got the train to Moorfields with my daughter, looked round the shops at Liverpool One, walked up to Derby Sq to see the giant sleeping, then walked down to Mann Island and visited the Liverpool museum before watching the little boy and xolo move off. Then walked up to Castle St and waited for the Giant to walk past. Then back to Liverpool One for more shops (that's teenage daughters for you!). Then walked back to Moorfields, and despite the queue for the station backing up to Dale Street we were on a Southport bound train within 15 minutes.

We where obviously in a VERY different part of the city!! Firstly, cannot fault the train's, VERY well organised!
We arrived at 10am and told by 2 official marcials we had missed them and they would ALL set off on there final parade back down the strand!!!!! we waited 3, 1/2 hours, with the other thousands of people!!! Only to see them sail off on the Albert dock!
Not a great environment either, people smoking cannabis, swearing , horrible experience really.

I was there Saturday afternoon. Can't understand how anyone could miss them or need to stand waiting for hours as the event website had a live tracker showing giants movements on a map.

I don't wish to be thanked by uppity coppers basking in the glory of the real organisers. Who do these plods think they are, emoting and pontificating all over the place? It's just deflection from the terrible crime clear-up rates.
