This Saturday, 8 September - the third Saturday of RMT strike action - we are operating a reduced timetable with very few trains running before 9am and after 6pm.
We expect to run around 30% of services and all customers are advised to plan carefully if they intend to travel on the rail network.
Unfortunately, on some routes, we aren't able to run services, while others have a limited service. On those routes where we are able to operate trains, we expect all services to be extremely busy. We also have replacement bus services available on some routes where trains aren’t running.
Ongoing engineering work in and around Manchester will also see some disruption to services, particularly between Manchester and Liverpool, with Northern running an hourly service via Warrington Central. Services running via St Helens Junction will start and terminate at Newton-le-Willows with buses running to and from Manchester Oxford Road.
On Sunday there will be planned cancellations on a small minority of routes, primarily in the north west, and again customers should check up to the last minute before travelling.
This weekend also sees a number of significant events taking place throughout the north of England and customers are reminded of the impact the amended timetables will have on travel to and from those events.
Comes a time when one would ask do we need
a railway. ?
Could rip up tracks and put in 2 coach lanes .
That way the company can run the services not
left wing unions.

Could nationalise the Railways again as our privatisation has obviously failed.
That way the company can run the services not
right wing morons and their brainless voters.

But thankfully we do still have some ‘left wing’ unions in this country protecting workers rights, ensuring a fair days pay for a fair days work and making sure the greedy fat cat bosses of the privatised services who are only interested in profits can’t compromise on safety. Merseyrail has backed down to the unions, Northern will be next. Good on the unions for looking after the safety of the public.
So, ausard2 and cotton man. Your hair brained idea would fall at the first hurdle. The bus industry is mainly unionised in this country too, probably much to your dismay. No self respecting bus driver would partake in your genius scheme. But thanks for the idea anyway. The posts from you two idiots never fail to keep me amused. So please, keep on taking the tablets and I look forward to having a read of your future rants and mumblings.

Train guard - safety - absolute gold plated rubbish!
Train guard - sit on your backside in a super heated compartment at the rear of the train doing 0.0000% of sod all for the majority of the journey - correct.
So protecting the right of a worker to be paid handsomely to do virtually nothing - thank goodness for the unions else they wouldn't get away with it.
Fat cat bosses - the union chiefs haven't got their snouts in the trough have they?
