Last weekend saw Edge Hill University host its first Vegan Fair, which was a huge success and step toward hosting more community events in the future.
With forty-one stalls, selling everything from Caribbean street-food, gourmet vegan hot-dogs and vegan ice cream, to handmade silver jewellery, ethical handmade clothing, dog biscuits, a full programme of free public events ran alongside the bustling marketplace.
The weekend held engaging talks, exhibitions, screenings and performances which explored a range of topics.
These included Women's leadership, online misogyny and the trolling of women, queering the lens of romance, the consumable women in media, protest art and banner making, women pioneering research in STEM, what it means to be a Nasty Woman, representations of women and their personal struggles in the fight for suffrage, Donald Trump and Climate Change, discussing diverse groups of bacteria in research, Autism and the curious case of the human mind and how we can broaden the scope of diversity to celebrate and promote talent.
The fair was organised by Jessica Tillings and Natalie McRae from the Corporate Communications department at the University. They hope that this will be the first of many more fairs focused on equalities and exclusivity hosted at the University.
