A wonderful donation of £1,000 was raised for Myeloma UK by members of the West Lancs and Merseyside Myeloma Support Group.

Myeloma - the second most common form of blood cancer - originates in the bone marrow and currently affects around 17,500 people in the UK.

Whilst treatable, myeloma is not yet curable, and Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with the condition. It helps patients live longer and with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development and access to new treatments, while helping patients and their families cope with everything a diagnosis brings.

Formed in January 2016, the West Lancs and Merseyside Myeloma Support Group is a friendly and supportive group established to support those who may be affected by myeloma.

During the year they also provide regular feedback on myeloma related activities, have occasional invited speakers and raise funds for Myeloma UK.

Claire Houghton of Myeloma UK said: “Patients are at the centre of everything we do. We help and encourage all of those affected by myeloma to seek the support they need. Myeloma UK Support Groups are central to this and we are delighted to be working so closely with The West Lancs and Merseyside Support Group.”

A spokesperson for the group added: “The West Lancs and Merseyside Myeloma Support Group meets once a month in Southport and is a great opportunity to meet patients, family members and carers in an informal and friendly environment. We are here to help anyone in the local area who has been affected by myeloma.”
