Contractors are now busy in and around Ormskirk repairing potholes that have 'grown' in the cold winter weather.
Yesterday morning they repaired one opposite Scott Drive in around 30 minutes; let's hope they pay a visit to Ormskirk town centre and specifically the Derby St railway bridge which is in a shocking state!

LCC are repairing only one pothole on Derby Street bridge. Perhaps there needs to be a changing of the guard at County Hall.
In an email of 14 January they say:
Dear Councillor Owens
Thank you for your email of 6 January 2021.
I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with my reply of 5 January 2021.
To keep carriageways safe and serviceable, we repair any defect of 40mm deep or greater and at least 150mm wide. Officers inspected the carriageway on this section of Derby Street on the 8 January and found one investigatory level defect which will be repaired within the next 20 working days.
We will look to include this carriageway in a future resurfacing programme, alongside others in the county, when its relative priority warrants. Unfortunately, previous assessments have identified higher priority schemes for resurfacing ahead of this section of Derby Street.
In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the condition of the carriageway on Derby Street to ensure they remain safe and serviceable.
If you identify any defects which meet our minimum investigatory level, these can be reported to us directly by calling our Highways Helpline on: 0300 123 6780 or online using our 'Report It' facility.
I hope you find this information useful.
Kind regards
Emma

Emma,
I’m disappointed at this cut and paste response. This is an A-road and part of the main circulation system in Ormskirk town centre. The road surface condition is not acceptable and I’m not sure there is a very firm commitment to take another look at the surface on the railway bridge which I have reported. Cars will be damaged as a result of such attitudes.

Dear Councillor Owens
Thank you for your email.
We carry out video surveys each year to help compile our annual resurfacing programme. We consider a number of factors when doing this, including: the asset's strategic importance, the number of reported defects, the volume and speed of traffic and its proximity to major utilities (such as hospitals). We repeat this survey and assessment work each year to capture any ongoing deterioration, and this helps ensure we only put forward the most deserving schemes.
Our annual resurfacing programme aligns with our long term maintenance plan, or Transport Asset Management Plan. This takes a proactive approach to help ensure we carry out preventative maintenance at the most appropriate time, using the most cost-effective solution. This in turn reduces the rate of deterioration, preventing the need for more costly maintenance sooner than would normally be required.
There are no plans to carry out works in the 2021/22 programme, we will look to include the carriageway on Derby Street in a future resurfacing programme in due course, in line with the above criteria.
In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the condition of the carriageway Derby Street to ensure they remain safe and serviceable.
If you identify any defects which meet our minimum investigatory level, these can be reported to us directly by calling our Highways Helpline on: 0300 123 6780 or online using our report it facility

Dear Highways District Team,
The whole section on Derby Street bridge over the railway in Ormskirk town centre needs a road re-surface. Very poor on an A-road.
Happy Christmas!
