Was the ghost of the late Ch. Insp. Arthur Traynor alive and well in Ormskirk this weekend?
You have to go back to a very different world of policing to remember him.
He was revered by friend and foe in Ormskirk; many officers remember him out on his rounds most weekends, nightstick in hand.
That same stick would be rapped on many a chippy’s counter as he told the manager at around 10.30pm: ‘that’s the last pan of chips you’re frying tonight!’ before leaving.
From now on in Ormskirk, it's last orders at 10pm - and so far so good, although one man leaving Wetherspoons smiled when that East Germany comment was mentioned.
Police cruised the town centre to ensure all the pubs, bars and clubs were closed for 10pm; it's the traditional Freshers weekend coming up so let's see how Ormskirk's newcomers react to the 'new normal'...
Pictured outside the Queens Head is manager Vanessa Mills, Kate and doormen who said it had been 'all quiet on the night'.
