Callum Clarke, representing the Liberal Democrats at the forthcoming local elections wants to ‘uplift the voices of young people’ in the Derby ward of the Borough Council and in Skelmersdale, where he's standing for the County Division of Skelmersdale Central.
Callum, who leads the Young Liberals in West Lancashire, told QLocal this evening: "It’s estimated that only around 15% of all councillors are aged under 45, although the communities the Borough and County council serve are far more diverse.
"That's particularly true in Derby ward, which encompasses a university campus, a wealth of student housing, and is home to many school-aged residents, young voices remain underrepresented on the council.
"This is something I want to see change in the long term, and why I’m proud to be part of a Liberal Democrat group that will not only put our communities and residents first but will also continue to uplift the voices of young people."
