Report and photos Dave and Liz Tonge

Last week a group of seven volunteers from Ormskirk Clocktower Rotary Club and Christ Church, Aughton, arrived home from a return visit to undertake charity work in the children's village at Kamuzinda, a rural area four hours from Kampala in Uganda.

Several members of the team travelled there last year to help extend and rebuild part of the primary school which is run by the Molly and Paul Childcare Foundation - a non government charity set up to provide free education, home and medical care to over 2000 orphaned, homeless or destitute children.

The classrooms were crumbling, roofs leaked and termites had eaten away many of the wooden roof supports - and this year they returned to complete the build, and also extend one of the children's homes which housed 38 young children, aged two upwards, in three cramped rooms.

Just over £9,300 was raised for the projects - mainly by the team themselves, with events being held throughout the year. These included a coffee morning, raffles and tombolas, cake bakes and even a sponsored cutting of a 40 year old pony tail, organised by team member Mark Cowing.

Money was also generously donated by many individuals as well as members from Christ Church, Maghull and Aughton Rotary Club and 3rd Burscough Guides, while a global giving campaign set up by Ormskirk Clocktower Rotary Club also raised enough funds to extend the home.

As well as the cash, the team took with them over 400 pairs of shoes donated from the Burscough community as a result of a Facebook plea by trip organiser, Liz Tonge. These were handed out to the children, some of whom had never owned a pair of shoes., and they also took clothes, first aid and educational resources.

As well as having the satisfaction of seeing the building work progress whilst they were there (and helping to remove rubble and shift bricks!), the team also travelled into the community to give the gifts of bowls containing bags of flour, rice, sugar, salt oil, curry powder and laundry soap to the most needy in the community - mostly grandparents trying to raise their grandchildren, their parents having died from AIDS, malaria or pneumonia. They also spent some afternoons sewing on lots of missing buttons and repairing uniforms with needles and threads donated from home.

Some money went to buy new pans for the cooking of children's daily diet of porridge, rice and beans, whilst more funded basic repairs to classroom treddle sewing machines and a water meter, bought new bunkbeds for the extended home and even provided schoolbooks so one young lady could attend the high school.

Said Liz: "This was my second trip to Kamuzinda and it was again a privilege to spend time with the children there and the adults who work so hard for them.

"We're so lucky in the UK - we have so much, yet these children who have nothing are the most happy, respectful and grateful young people I have ever met. I'm just glad to be able to help do my bit to make their lives a little easier by providing a space for them to sleep and a place where they can learn.

"I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped financially or otherwise to make the trip so succesful - we're already planning our third visit next year."
If you would like to help or know more about the work we do please visit the Molly and Paul Childcare website: www.mollyandpaul.org/ or our UK based support charity - Pearl of Africa Childcare Ltd.

Writing a good book review cannot be guaranteed by reading a book only. It requires additional research about the author and related literary pieces, in order to provide a thorough analysis of the book. Sometimes, you might be asked to provide some insights into how this book is related to your course and what ideas might be found in other literary pieces https://bestwritingservice.com/book-...-services.html.
