Our thanks to local councillor Adrian Owens for helping shed some light on just why Ormskirk town centre continues to have such a patchwork look
This email received at the busy QLocal news desk last night:
Permanent and matching repairs - Ormskirk Town Centre
Here was the reply I received about paving setts re: your recent article.
From: Highways District Lead Officer Sent: 27 February 2020 08:29 To: 'Cllr.Owens@westlancs.gov.uk' Subject: Permanent and matching repairs - Ormskirk Town Centre
Dear Councillor Owens,
Thank you for your below emails regarding permanent and matching repairs of the paving setts in Ormskirk Town Centre. Please accept my apologies for the delay in providing you with a response. We are aware of the interim reinstatements in Ormskirk and are working with the utility companies concerned to have permanent repairs completed as soon as possible. The issue is sourcing the modular paving units and we are trying to assist in sourcing the same as is currently in place in Ormskirk town centre.
The town centre area of Ormskirk is subject to routine safety inspections on a monthly basis. Whilst we only recommend permanent repairs, the problem is that the modular paving units required are not readily available. Interim repairs are completed in black top material to make the area safe and to complete repairs within the repair policy timeframes.
The purpose of routine safety inspections are to report issues that carry a foreseeable risk. We would not report an area that has been repair on interim basis unless it was deemed to be dangerous or potentially dangerous.
I hope that this information is helpful to you.
Kind regards,
Matt Campbell District Lead Officer Highways and Transport Lancashire County Council T: 0300 123 6701 W:www.lancashire.gov.uk

Why not put the 'paving units' you dug up back in place? No we'll just take the easy option and throw them away. Sorry LCC the Utility Companies and other contractors are taking the Michael!

virgin managed it on my drive replaced original block paving back perfect after work completed this should be the standard for Ormskirk Town Centre and someone from the council should be overseeing the work and not letting utility companies leave in such a state.
