The mum of an Ormskirk teen injured in an accident with a coach on County Road recently told the county councillor responsible for road safety her own emotive story at a packed road safety meeting at The Hayfield on Tuesday night.
Around 60 folk packed into the pub for the event called by OWL's* Jane Thompson and Kate Mitchell in response to public concerns over the issue.
County Road has been high on the local news agenda with frequent crashes and a number of fatalities making the headlines in recent years; a 30 limit will be introduced soon but many were sceptical it would be enforced and there were no police at the meeting to offer their own perspectives on the problem.
County councillor Keith Iddon was accompanied by senior highways engineer Phil Durnell and heard one dramatic proposal to build a new roundabout at the Fiveways junction which sees regular near misses as two main roads and a minor road meet.
Also attending the meeting were OWL's Adrian Owens, and county councillors John Fillis who lives nearby on Southport Road and has first hand knowledge of the problems along with Nicky Hennessy, a well known face at the local PACT meetings
Kate told QLocal reporter Roger Blaxall she was pleased to see such a good response to the meeting which lasted for around an hour; now the ball is in the police and county council court although it will be high on Kate's agenda in the local borough elections in early May.
