A thriving tennis club's submitted a planning application to replace three of its grass courts with two all weather surface replacements.
The application's been made by Aughton Lawn Tennis Club, based at Granville Park. Following an increase in membership over recent years, the club says its existing facilities have reached maximum capacity, with its grass courts considered too small.
Three trees - two sycamores and a holly - are also suggested for removal as part of the application.
Four of the eight courts are floodlit at the moment; under the proposals the mini court would have floodlighting as would two new full sized court and the existing number 8 court.
The club states in its 'Design, Access & Heritage' statement that it hopes borough planners will recognise the contribution that it makes to the local community and will be able to respond favourably to its application.
The statement adds: “The club has the opportunity to make improvements that will greatly improve the quality of a number of courts and substantially increase the playing capacity.
"The benefits of all weather capability are widely recognised.”
