Hardworking pupils and staff at St Bede’s RC High have celebrated another strong set of GCSE results.

The class of 2019 maintained the school’s long history of strong academic attainment.

The headline figures showed that once again, the school performed well above the national averages in English, Maths and the whole school attainment figure.
And after the school’s very positive Ofsted inspection in May 2019, the performance of this year group brought more smiles to the faces of the young people, their parents, their teachers and the entire school community.

The school continues to be heavily over-subscribed due to this academic performance and the values of the school which are underpinned by love, faith and hope. The students have certainly made these values a lived reality this year.

Some notable success were Joe Caygill (pictured with head Phil Denton) and Thomas Arnold scored straight 9’s across the board. The boys worked exceptionally hard and gained their rightful reward. Other notable successes were Adam Jenkins, Skye Hayes, Carl Wainwright, Lisa-Marie Bannister, Thomas Donnam, Tigue Walsh, George Barnett, Hannah Moen, Hannah Charnock and Francesca Singh. This list of students achieved on average over two grades than expected. Once again, their fantastic work ethic and desire to succeed resulted in great success.

The school boast more than 60 years of history, during which time many former students have gone on to successful careers in all manner of fields. The school’s reputation has resulted in several members of the teaching staff supporting schools across Lancashire and the Archdiocese of Liverpool. This support comes in the form of subject specific work along with areas the school excels in such as; mental health, academic progress and pastoral support.

Headteacher, Phil Denton, shared his delight at the performance of the St Bede’s students, te;lling QLocal yesterday: "We are blessed with fantastic students who are committed to the ambition that drives this school forward.

"We are proudly Catholic and we believe our nurturing approach based on our core values, love, faith and hope, allows us to support our students effectively.

"However, ultimately it is the students who have to perform in their final exams. Once again, they have not let anyone down. We have a varied intake with students predicted to attain very highly, as well as those who require a specific learning support.

"I am so proud to see the vast majority of our students reaching their potential."
He also praised the support networks that surround the St Bede’s students, adding: "Our staff are relentless in their support of our students. Whether they be site staff, administrative staff, kitchen staff, teaching staff, classroom support or intervention tutors, we work as a close knit team to ensure our students get the support they need."

He went on to extend his thanks to the entire school community, saying: "Our parents are our biggest supporters. We had 95% reply to an Ofsted questionnaire to say they would recommend us which was so pleasing to see. They challenge and support us to reach our vision of becoming a ‘World Class school for children that want to make the world a better place."
St Bede’s Chair of Governors, Steve Marston added: "The school has a proud history, a successful present and a very exciting future. The progress of our younger year groups is getting stronger and stronger!

"The results of our Y10 students, who have taken their English Literature exam one year early, has again reflected the exciting future ahead for St Bede's."
