If there was one question asked again and again in Ormskirk today, it was this: 'Are snowflakes running the council?'
So is that why there was, ahem, sno' market?
It was little wonder so many folk wondered why the regular market was cancelled when in Ormskirk at least despite being a little on the cold side, the market area was free of ice and snow.
Here's the council's response: 'West Lancashire Borough Council took the decision to cancel Ormskirk Market for Thursday 31 January due to the adverse weather forecast for icy conditions.
It needs to take this decision in advance so we can give plenty of warning to market traders, some of whom travel quite a distance.
We closely monitor the weather forecasts and don't take decisions like this lightly, but the safety of everyone involved is paramount.
When the market is on, council staff have to be out between 4am and 5am in the morning to start setting up and conditions would have been very icy at that time.'
At least Josh Gordon from Aughton Street's Chia Chia was happy - he has complained in the past about market stalls obscuring his café from market visitors.
And spare a thought for the lady from Halsall who commutes to Stoke four days a week; as one newcomer to Ormskirk said this evening 'It's alright for some but the British working man and woman has to keep on going.'
Like the black cab driver on Tower Hill who cranked up his taxi after returning from two weeks in Gran Canaria - it coughed into life despite the freezing conditions.
