Join the queue - traffic has been delayed on Holborn Hill for the past two weekend for Cadent gas works.
Out thanks to Kevin Hegarty in the company's busy PR office for this update:
'Hi Roger
Sorry this took longer than hoped.
We have been carrying out work, since 11th May, to upgrade one of our very old gas mains, under Holborn Hill, that’s simply reaching the end of its safe working life.Every year, we replace around 1% to 2% of our older gas mains, so that we can be assured they can continue to safely distribute gas to help heat local homes.
We identified this section of main, on Holborn Hill, as ideal for replacement now because a) it does not need us to enter any homes to complete the job and b) it’s outside a high school. With roads quieter than normal, and with the school not in full time, we’ve been able to complete a job now that otherwise would have been much more disruptive.
The work of energy networks like Cadent has been classed by Government as essential during the coronavirus lockdown. Cadent must maintain a safe gas network. Our teams are following all Covid-19 safety guidelines as they get the work done.
Good news is that we completed the installation of the new main late last week and remain on track to complete the ‘reinstatement’ (e.g. filling in the holes we had to dig) within the timescale we’d agreed for the job with the highways authority, by 5th June. We’ve been working weekends too on this job, as you saw on Saturday. Hope that helps.
