A suspected burglar startled by an angry homeowner was arrested - after running straight to a police station.
The man, 29, was chased away from an alleged burglary on Delph Lane, Aughton and ran to the nearby Town Green train station, home also to Aughton nick.His attempts to flee on a Merseyrail train were dashed when the driver halted the journey to allow officers on board to carry out his arrest.
Officers from Ormskirk Police took to Twitter to share details of the incident, writing: “A huge thanks to the residents and Merseyrail for holding the train for us while we assisted the offender in alighting it. #chuffed #burglaraware”
A Police PR officer confirmed that the incident related to an alleged burglary on Delph Lane in Aughton around 10.30am on Wednesday, saying: “A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently at hospital in custody.”
Officers also confiscated his mobile as he's suspected of several vehicle related crimes in the area.
