One unfortunately not mentioned here but one of the best in west Lancashire, the Mawdesley CC show on 27 May:

From the organisers: Mawdesley Cricket Club Classic Car and Motorcycle Show Bank Holiday Monday 27th May, 2024

Mawdesley Cricket Club will be again hosting its very popular Classic Car and Motorbike Show on its playing fields at School Lane, Mawdesley (Post Code: L40 3TG). This year it will be held on the Bank Holiday Monday at the end of May.

Classic cars of all ages will be invited to take part, from veteran and vintage up to and including modern marvels, replicas, supercars, and kit cars. So, if you have something of interest to show why not come along for what will be a great day out for all motoring enthusiasts? Entry for all classic cars and their passengers is free.

The day will start in the morning with a twenty mile ‘Run in Convoy’ through the local countryside around Mawdesley and surrounding towns and villages. All cars entering the Run will receive a commemorative Rally Plaque to attach to their cars. Vehicles taking part in the ‘Run’ will be asked to line up at the ground on School Lane anytime from 9.00am to 09.45am and await the start which this year will be in convoy behind a lead vehicle. The ‘Run’ will take about 60 minutes to complete with those entering being back before the show proper opens at 11.00am. Reserved spaces will be set aside for all cars going on the ‘Run’ to ensure that they have a front or second row place to park up in when they return! There will be a £15 charge for those wishing to enter the run to reserve their space and to cover the costs of providing the Rally Plaques. See below for details of how to register in advance for the ‘Run’.

Those just entering the show must arrive by 11am latest. There will be no need to register this year on arrival at the ground unless you want to enter your car into the show competitions. This year there will be five categories – Pre 1950’s, 50’s and 60’s, 70 and 80’s, 1990’s and later. There will also be a separate category for Motorcycles. On arrival on site those wishing to enter into any class for judging will be given an identifying number on a colour coded card to put in their windscreens. Judging will take place from 12 noon onwards and winners in the various categories will be announced from 2.30pm, with class winners being invited to park up at the front of the show marquee for final judging and for the public attending to vote on to determine which car or motorcycle is the peoples’ choice ‘Best in Show’. There will be two main trophies awarded this year, the Lancaster Insurance trophy for the ‘people’s choice’ winner and the Ashley Procter Memorial Cup for the judges’ ‘Best in Show’ award. The results will be announced at about 3.00pm. The show will close at 4.00pm.

To keep all those attending amused and engaged during the day it is planned to have a variety of activities on site together with a number of stalls being run by those in the motor trade as well as local community groups selling jumble and bric-a-brac to raise funds for their own organisations. Any individuals, local charities or local Car Clubs wishing to display and/or sell would be very welcome and they can secure a pitch by contacting the Cricket Club on the number given below. A small charge of £5 will be required to book a space/stall for voluntary organisations and £20 for businesses.

Activities being planned for the 2024 show include the ever-popular model aircraft flying display by the Mereside Model Club, plus a kid’s Sports Zone to keep the youngsters happy. There will be plenty of refreshments available during the day including a stall selling cakes and sandwiches, a cafe selling biscuits, sweets etc., as well as tea and coffee, and a beer and wine bar for the extra thirsty. There will also be a BBQ and other hot food outlets in operation.

The Car Show is free to enter for all those arriving in a Classic Car or on a Classic Motorbike / Scooter, including their passengers, although the Cricket Club this year would ask those attending to make a £5 voluntary donation towards the Club’s funds on arrival. Space is limited on the field and places can only be guaranteed to the first 120 cars that arrive on the day. Spectators to the event will be charged a small entry fee, £5 for those over 16’s and £3 for the U16’s and children. A discounted family ticket will be available.

To enter the ‘Run’ please download the entry form by following this link: www.mawdesley.play-cricket.com and follow the link to the Classic Car Show. Completed entry forms should be posted back by the end of April (together with a large stamped self-address A4 sized return envelope if you want to be sent your Rally Plaque in advance) to 16 Bradshaw Lane, Mawdesley, Lancashire, L40 3SE. Rally Plaques will be posted out by mid-May or be available to collect (but only if pre-ordered) on the morning of the show. Please pay your ‘Run’ entry fees if appropriate by cheque made payable to ‘Mawdesley Cricket Club’, or by bank transfer to Mawdesley CC, Sort Code 60-09-13, Account Number 09174605, please mark your payment CCS Run / followed by your name.
