Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner has praised a number of projects which have succeeded in tackling reoffending owing to funding last year, as the fund reopens for new applications.

With £80k available across four local 'Reducing Reoffending Boards' covering the north, south, east and west of the county, Charities, organisations and partners will be able to bid for projects that will work with offenders in their areas and help integrate them back into the community.

The boards understand the concerns and needs of local people and play a key role in identifying the benefits of schemes for local areas. Representatives include Lancashire Constabulary, local authorities and the regional Community Rehabilitation Company.

Last year also saw the appointment of a new Chair to help ensure there is consistency in each area and that they work towards the Commissioner's priorities.

In September last year, over £160k was provided to nine projects across Lancashire and the Commissioner has seen first-hand the work that these have been doing and the positive impact they are having.

He said: "Since my reducing reoffending funding was created, it has been fantastic to hear the real difference the funding has been making both for individuals and communities across the county.

"Policing alone cannot prevent people reoffending and this opportunity to distribute further funding allows us to build on this work, which is helping turn people's lives around and making Lancashire a safer place, which can only be a good thing.

"Tackling crime and reoffending is a key priority in my Police and Crime Plan and supporting initiatives that help people to move away from a life of crime and break the cycle of reoffending makes a real difference in their lives and in our neighbourhoods."

Added Jerry Graham, Independent Chair of the Local Reducing Reoffending Boards: “By having all four local boards involved in the application process, we can really understand the potential of each project to make a real difference across Lancashire in a way which addresses local concerns.

“We hope this will build on the work already being done following the funding that was given last year which has already clearly been making a difference.”

The Commissioner’s reducing reoffending funding is currently open for applications, with the current application window open until 09:00 on 25 February 2019.
