Jack Gilmore has been selected as the Conservative candidate for West Lancashire for the next General Election.

Jack, who works as a political researcher for Daniel Kawczynski MP, was selected by members of the West Lancashire Association at the weekend.

His campaign will focus on delivering a successful Brexit for the region, fighting for more support for local services, looking to protect West Lancashire's greenbelt, restricting future development to only that required to meet local housing need, and addressing mental health funding locally.

After the selection he said: “I am overjoyed at being selected as your Conservative candidate for West Lancashire. I was born in Billinge Hospital and lived in Appley Bridge until I was 18, so know the area well and know the issues and concerns of the residents here.

“If elected as the next MP for West Lancashire I would look to oppose Labour’s proposals for a new local plan to assist Merseyside's relentless urban sprawl and work to improve house building on brownfield instead of green field sites. Another political priority would be to address mental health funding and the stigma that is still attached to it, something which needs addressing.”

On Brexit, Jack said he was a firm believer that the 2016 referendum result must be honoured.

He said: “We must leave the EU with or without a deal. Whilst my preference is that we leave with a comprehensive deal, we should be prepared to leave without one if needs be.

“If elected as the next Conservative MP for West Lancashire I would be the voice of residents here in the heart of Westminster. Standing up and fighting for them in Parliament. The people of West Lancashire have been let down by Labour for too long and it’s now time for change.”
