Lancashire County Council has confirmed the closure of Aughton's Silver Birch Lodge care home following a damning CQC inspection.
The authority confirmed the closure of the home following its recent inadequate rating by the CQC.
Louise Taylor, Lancashire County Council’s executive director for adult services, health and wellbeing, said: “The owners of Silver Birch have given notice that they will close the home.
“The residents’ safety and wellbeing is our priority and we’re working with the provider and the NHS to ensure residents are supported to find suitable alternative accommodation as quickly as possible.
“We’ve arranged meetings with residents and their families to keep them informed and each resident has been allocated a social worker or nurse to support them and their families throughout the process.”
The closure announcement follows the CQC’s damning inspection, which listed a series of failures at the home in relation to medicine management, and the management of falls risk and weight loss.
The CQC said: “The provider failed to ensure individual risks for people who lived at the service had been assessed and this placed them at significant risk of avoidable harm.”
Staff were also found to be not always recruited safely with the provider not always making checks for suitability in working with vulnerable adults. Management of the services was found to be “poor” with the manager and senor staff having a “substantial lack of understanding about the Mental Capacity Act. Despite the inadequacies highlighted by the report, the CQC noted the generally positive feedback on staff at the service.
