A poppy project that captured the imagination of young and old in Ormskirk and beyond will reach a fitting conclusion on Armistice Sunday in Coronation Park.

And two very privileged pupils from Ormskirk St Anne's RC school will place a unique wreath - made up of around 600 poppies knitted and crocheted by members of the public - at the town's remembrance service.

Each poppy will is named to remember those killed from the Ormskirk and Aughton areas in WW1 with Rufford's Jo Dempsey reflecting on the success of her initiative launched by mayor Noel Delaney a few weeks ago by thanking everyone who took part.

Churches, community groups and individuals have all brought in their poppies with one lady - Jean Whalley - finishing an amazing 93 and another couple from The Wirral visiting three Thursdays in a row with their poppies.

And on Friday morning, St Anne's pupils visited the café to be thanked for their excellent artwork commemorating the fallen.

Meanwhile, the final touch for the Armistice weekend - a gingerbread war horse which now takes pride of place in Dempsey's window - was unveiled yesterday.

Jo and her mum Sylvia Bober are pictured assembling the wreath.
