Edge Hill University has been shortlisted for the coveted 'University of the Year' title in the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards – the ‘Oscars’ of the education world.
After first scooping the much sought-after title in 2014, the Ormskirk university is again in the running for the most prestigious accolade in the higher education sector.
In other categories, the university’s teams have also been shortlisted for 'Outstanding Support for Students' and 'Outstanding Library Team'.
The awards recognise outstanding work across a wide range of activity, reflecting the reality of how a university operates, and the interwoven nature of so much of what universities do.
This latest announcement comes hot on the heels of Edge Hill being one of only two universities in the running for the Educate North Awards for University of the Year.
Dr John Cater, Vice-Chancellor, said: “I’m so proud that Edge Hill has once again been shortlisted for the prestigious Times Higher Education University of the Year award, recognising our exceptional performance in the past academic year.
“It’s a title that we first held in 2014 and to be in the running again shows that we are a university that continues to improve.
“I am delighted that we have been shortlisted for Outstanding Support for Students and Outstanding Library Team too. Congratulations to all involved.
“I’m sure that the judges will find much to impress: our TEF gold status for our consistently outstanding teaching and learning; outcomes of our students; the growth in research activity; and, our continuing investment in facilities and the student experience – with a £300m investment testimony to this commitment.
“Most recently, the opening of our new Medical School will provide training and support for the NHS in the North West and supply the doctors of our future.”
Hundreds of nominations for outstanding institutions, departments and individuals were submitted across categories covering the full range of university activity; the winner will be revealed during a virtual celebration on Thursday, November 26.
