Southport journalist Martin Hovden writes: It was standing room only earlier today when more than 100 people packed into West Lancashire Crematorium for the funeral of local newspaper photographer Martyn Snape (pictured).
The amazing turn-out was yet another example of the tremendous respect and love Martyn attracted during his 45-year career, covering the Sefton and West Lancs area.
And the arrival of his coffin in a Land Rover (pictured) was a surprising but much appreciated reflection of his passion for motor cars.
Martyn, one of the most likeable, professional and sincere photographers I have ever worked with, died in Queenscourt Hospice after a short illness a few weeks ago at the age of 65.
Since his death was announced, many people from all walks of life - including former Southport MP John Pugh - have paid fulsome but well-deserved tributes to this most charming and down-to-earth of men – it was simply an honour and a joy to work with Martyn.
His first role as a Press photographer was with the Ormskirk Advertiser, before he turned freelance, working primarily for Champion Newspapers in Sefton and West Lancs. Both news organisations were represented at today's ceremony.
The service included a reading from Winnie The Pooh (Martyn's choice) and a collage of Martyn's stunning photographs, many capturing the beauty and variety of life in Sefton and West Lancs.
Martyn Snape will be sadly missed but he leaves behind a loving family, a thankful community and an amazing catalogue of superb pictures which will last forever.

Now there are a lot of photographers but really few of them create art. in my opinion, a photographer doesn't need an expensive camera to make good photos. It comes from the heart. Of course, good cameras in the article by the link will definitely do a photo better but they don't change the core
