Report: Phil McConnell
A well regarded Ormskirk family doctor has retired on ill health from his County Road surgery.
Dr Ranjit Ray retired in November from his role as a GP after finding he had developed a serious form of cancer and needed urgent treatment, leaving him unable to offer his services to the people of West Lancashire.
He had practiced continuously for 32 years at his surgery and was well liked by patients and everyone who came into contact with him; his infectious smile and caring nature popular with colleagues and staff who worked alongside him.
He was particularly noted for the introduction of holistic treatment programmes including Yoga Breathing and Hydration Therapy, and ran regular weekly clinics for patients and friends at the surgery and had many recorded success reports of people reversing long term medical conditions with the application of these techniques.
He was also involved with the Ormskirk Branch of The Rotary Club who raised money for good causes in the local area.
He is currently treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey who have offered Dr Ray the opportunity to partake in a trial programme which could halt or reverse the progress of this form of cancer.
To enable him to fully engage with this programme he has moved from his home in Aughton and is living with his son who is also a GP in Surrey -all his many friends, staff, colleagues and patients wish him well and pray for a successful outcome of his treatment. Pictured is Dr Ray a couple of years ago at a friend's wedding that's been displayed at the surgery for some time.
A spokesperson from NHS West Lancashire CCG said: “Following a period of ill health, DrRay retired from practice in November 2018.
"The remaining partners will continue to run the practice and ensure that there is a consistent level of service to patients. It is therefore business as usual.”

Great care from this gentleman was received by several members of my family. He (and his staff) even withstood my dad's impatience & bad temper with impressive good humour. Best wishes & sincerest thanks to him & his family.
