A group of Aughton residents have taken up one of the borough's longest ever speed reduction campaigns which started around 75 years ago!
This email from Mickering Lane's Mick Freeman hit the busy QLocal news desk this afternoon:
'We are trying to improve the neighbourhood, this time by reducing the speed limit.
It is interesting that this campaign has been going on since the end of WWII, see press cuttings.
Some of the residents in the attached press cutting are still here, and some of the children are now grandparents themselves.
We are trying to convince Lancashire CC that '20 is plenty' in our lane which has a combination of National Speed Limit and 30mph. Added to this there are vulnerable school children and pensioners along with sections without footpaths.
To date we haven't had any success - but the fight continues!'
This Advertiser cutting is from 30 odd years ago.
