County Councillor Julie Gibson, the Lancashire County Labour Group Shadow Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, has backed calls for a fair pay increase for nurses in Lancashire.
This weekend, she told QLocal: “I have put forward a motion to the October meeting of the full council of Lancashire County Council to call on the Government to reconsider its decision not to increase NHS Nurses pay in Lancashire.
"During the worst times of the pandemic, nurses in Lancashire, and across the country, where at the forefront of the efforts to deal with the effects of COVID often in very challenging times. Many of them made personal sacrifices, such as not seeing their own families, to ensure those affected got the care that they needed.”
She continued: “The weekly 'clap for carers' brought us all together to recognise those efforts, but we need to recognise that clapping alone does not put food on the table for many of these low paid workers and their families. Since 2018, nurses in Lancashire have received pay rises of only 1%. They clearly demonstrated their worth and were supported by people and politicians all across Lancashire.”
Cllr Gibson said: “The motion calls on the Chief Executive to write to the Prime Minister asking him to recognise the work carried out by all nurses in Lancashire and to award them a pay increase in recognition of the fantastic work that they have done; I hope that all Councillors will be able to support it.”
Motion: The council requests that the Chief Executive and Director of Resources writes to the Prime Minister asking that the government reconsiders its decision not to increase NHS Nurses pay in Lancashire and awards them a pay increase in recognition of the fantastic work they are doing in support of the people of Lancashire.
