The top two teams in the Ormskirk & District Pool League both had solid 6 (7) – 1 wins this time around. The Bridge lead the table on 46 points after coming away from Shaw Hall Caravan Park with a win. Meanwhile the Queen Inn sit just one point behind after defeating the Eureka.
Last season's champions, Bar 22, continue their march up the table after taking maximum points away at the Pinewoods, while Bar 22 are now just 4 points off the pace. And La Cantina A are just a further appoint adrift after a 5(6) – 2 victory over Whittakers, Whitakers compatriots, The Stanley Club, are just behind them on 40 points after defeating La Cantina by the same margin.
The Bridge Dogs have amassed 38 points so far this term this time around the defeated the Railway by the odd frame, the ‘Dogs; sit in 6th position.
A few points behind sit the Farmers who yet again gained victory by the odd frame, this week they defeated Shaw Hall A. The Farmers have 34 points and sit in 7th place, just a point ahead of Whittakers.
Just 3 points separate the Railway (27). La Cantina (26) and Shaw Hall A (25).
The bottom 3 teams at this early stage are all new to the league this season, it can take quite a bit of time to adopt to league play so don’t despair, we were all new once!
The terms for the player of the year award has changed this time around, the winning player must have played at least 75% of singles matches available Therefore with 8 rounds of matches played the eligible players must have played at least 6 matches. While there are several players with a 100% record none have played 6 matches.
The leading players are therefore Andy Mc Donnell (Farmers) played 8 won 7 (87.5%), Martin Gallego (Stanley Club) played 7 won 6 (85.71%) and Luke Salters (La Cantina) and Andy Singleton (Whittakers) who have both played 6 and won 5 (83.33%),
The top doubles player at the moment is Brian Salters (La Cantina A), Brian has won all 4 of the doubles matches he has been involved in. We will be discussing the potential of introducing a doubles player of the year award at the next meeting. This isn’t something we have considered in the past because our old website didn’t produce any statistics on this particular element.
The new website also allows us to look at overall performance (ie taking into account all games a player has been involved in). Again we have no current award for this but the leading players are: Harry White (La Cantina A) played 10 won 9 (90%) and Adam Pearce (Queen Inn) played 12 won 10 (83.33%).
