Our thanks to QLocal reader Veronica Prescott for these comments re. the road safety concerns on Long Lane, Aughton near the new Caro development:
'Your photos and report on 28th June relating to the absolute nightmare which is created by traffic on the above highway, just confirms our concerns particularly for pedestrians in this area.
I have made my fears known to County Councillor Iddon some months ago and did receive acknowledgement of the problems but so far no action.
Firstly, this stretch of road becomes one lane for most of the working day, due to vehicles parking for the day outside Aughton Park station. Then the site entrance, as shown, where huge lorries are forced to reverse in to enable delivery, creates more traffic congestion. It is also a bus route for our local community and that spot showing the wagons is a bus stop.
There are also tractors and trailers, the size and length of a house, speeding past and vans close enough to decapitate us with their mirrors.
This situation is being ignored by all agencies, hoping it will resolve without incident; I am not sure that will happen, as a large number of the pedestrians waiting for the bus are elderly and have vision and hearing problems, as well as not being fully mobile.
It’s a tragedy waiting to happen and the people responsible for allowing this situation to continue will regret it if a serious accident occurs. I am at a loss to understand as to how permission was granted to allow the site access be from the busiest road in Aughton and considering there are only eight properties being built, it has taken what seems like a very long time in progress.
Just felt it needed some publicity to get the points across.'
