West Lancashire MP Ashley Dalton, is working with local young people marking a weekend of remembrance.
Eleven services are taking place across her West Lancashire constituency over the weekend, with many occurring at the same time, meaning Ms. Dalton is unable to attend them all.
In an effort to ensure she is represented at every service in the constituency, she's turned to some of the community’s younger members, asking them to lay wreaths in her name at the events she can't attend.
Laying wreaths on her behalf at five services across West Lancashire are Noah Tunstall, Grace Armstrong, Marz Rowles, Kai Brady, Chloe Moran, Chantal Rider, and Thomas Byrne from the West Lancashire Youth Council; they'll be joined by Daria Giana, the Member of Youth Parliament for West Lancashire.
Speaking on this weekend’s remembrance events, Ms. Dalton said “I’m really proud to be working with such brilliant young people to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday this weekend.
"There are so few of those who lived and fought in WWII still with us; it’s so important that we engage with young people on these occasions and remind ourselves why we must never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we enjoy today.”
And Daria spoke of her pride in being asked to participate in the weekend’s services, “I was honoured that Ashley asked me to lay a wreath on her behalf. It’s so important that we use Sunday to remember those who fought for our freedoms, and reflect on how we cannot take our liberty for granted. I’m proud to be playing my part in leading the young people in our community in remembering this Sunday.”
The Remembrance services taking place this week follow the MP's planting of a tribute in the Constituency Garden of Remembrance in Westminster earlier this week. She dedicated her tribute to the women of the Land Army in West Lancashire: https://www.facebook.com/AshleyDaltonLabour/
