MP Rosie Cooper has confirmed with the Environment Agency that it's undertaking maintenance work on the Dyers Lane stretch of Hurlston Brook in the coming weeks.
Concerned residents have again contacted MP Rosie to report the brook’s banks being overgrown and their worries about potential flooding.
They've had problems in the past, experiencing heavy flooding in 2012 and 2015, and so it is very important this issue is addressed to ensure the state of the brook doesn’t contribute to any danger of future flooding.
Having contacted the EA, Lancashire’s Operations Delivery Manager Ant Swarbrick responded to Rosie to confirm the in-channel weed and grass management of the watercourse would be undertaken between 1 August and 30 September.
Said Rosie: “I welcome the Environment Agency’s continued positive response in carrying out the required maintenance work.
“It is important that residents feel assured that the relevant authorities are working to keep our watercourses clearand well maintained to prevent any flooding.
“Although residents have rightly felt the need to raise this issue with me, I am confident that the EA will uphold their commitment to clear this brook, and I will be keeping an eye out to make sure that they do.”
