Ormskirk won the toss and elected to bat.
The first wicket went down when John Armstrong (10) fell to a catch with the total on 27. The loss of the wicket brought in George Lavelle, last week’s century maker, to join Tyler McGladdery. Things, however, did not go as well for George (0) as they had done last week, with him being caught behind off his first, to return to the pavilion without troubling the scorer.
Alex Rankin joined the fray and a partnership of 65 was put on for the third wicket when Tyler (49) was out lbw to leave the score on 92-3. Without a further run being added Alex (20) lost his wicket, having misjudged a ball, to offer the opposition a simple catch.
Gary Knight and Robert Rankin steadied the boat and took the score on to 146 when Robert (29), like his brother Alex, went out to a catch.
From 146-5 the total rose to 197-7 when the innings was declared with Gary Knight being undefeated with a half century and valuable contributions from Tom Hartley (15) and Ryan Maddock (11*)
Nicky Caunce and Scott Lees opened the bowling for Ormskirk and it was Nicky who made the first breakthrough claiming the wicket of Ross Zelem (6) with the score on 18.
From then on Ormskirk were always in charge with wickets falling at regular intervals. The Lytham batsmen found Tom Hartley and Ryan Maddock a formidable duo when they came together to lead the attack. Tom bowled an unbroken spell of 21 overs taking 2-48 and Ryan in 12 overs claimed 5-45.
It looked to be plain sailing for Ormskirk but by resolute defence the last two batsmen put, what had seemed to be a straightforward victory, into doubt. It got to the stage when all they had to do was to survive 12 balls and force a draw.
Scott Lees was brought on to try and break the deadlock and he succeeded. It was with the fourth ball of the over he claimed the vital wicket when John Armstrong took a fine catch to dismiss Jack Saunders (10).
Victory was gained with just 8 balls to spare; it was a solid Ormskirk performance with the honour of being nominated Man of the Match going to Ryan Maddock for his fine all-round performance but specifically for his first 5 wicket haul of the season.
