The British Red Cross are calling on businesses to rock up with teams in May's Rock ‘n’ Roll half-marathon in Liverpool.
It'll raise vital money for the charity, which helps people in the UK and overseas get the life-changing support they need when crisis strikes.
Organised by the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, it is an iconic, sell-out marathon and half marathon across Liverpool city centre, taking place on the 29 – 30 May.
It's a firm favourite for many runners, and the charity have their own discounted charity places for this event which are limited as first come, first serve - so why not book yours as soon as possible!
Red Cross has 260 volunteers in the Merseyside area. This year it's helped those who have quarantined at Arrowe Park hospital, offering them emotional support, and staff and volunteers made sure they received parcels from friends and family members.
Last year they gave practical help and emotional support to more than 2,000 people affected by emergencies such as house fires and flooding, supported 755 refugees and people seeking asylum to settle in and be reunited with their families, and its volunteers loaned more than 370 wheelchairs, getting people moving again after an accident or illness.
Nationally, it's supported over 500,000 people in the fight against Covid-19; on Merseyside, more than 6,700 people make regular donations to the charity to help fund its work and many more make one-off donations, donate items to one of the charity’s six Merseyside-based charity shops or are sponsored to do events such as the Liverpool Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.
Charis Priestly-Bird, British Red Cross community fundraising manager in Merseyside, says: “We are incredibly excited about this event. Getting involved with the Red Cross gives you so many ways to use your kindness to help people in crisis. Every step you take could be helping a family made homeless by a house fire, someone who needs to borrow a wheelchair to stay independent after an accident and refugees and asylum seekers who need help settling into their new community or making contact with loved ones.”
