From local Police FB page:
PC Steve Birtles introduces Burscough's 'Little Hero'.
'I’d like to introduce you all to Jess, aged 5, of Burscough whose story brings home the reality of why we’ve all been in lockdown for so long.
Jess’s mum, Selina, a senior district nurse, was found at home unconscious after struggling to breathe. Luckily Dad and Nanny Sue were on hand to step in and administer first aid as Selina had actually stopped breathing; while this was going on Jess, who was eager to help, was sent to watch out for the Ambulance and send them up to her mum.
Selina was diagnosed as having COVID-19 and has been seriously ill, in and out of hospital; there was a point when she may have not made it but thankfully she is now on the mend and recuperating at home.
This is were Jess comes in; not only has she had to face the reality of possibly losing her precious Mum to this awful disease but she has stepped up at home; she does her daily school work and then does the household chores, making the beds, feeding the animals to name just a few, so Mum doesn’t have to. She's also been baking cakes for her neighbours “to enjoy and not feel alone.”
Jess has also been making wooden rainbows, in Jess’s words “to cheer people up when they are alone and sad and even when they have families, it’s to make them smile." She’s even wanted to donate her toys to raise money for the local animal sanctuary.
Jess has dealt with all this with a smile and behaved beyond her years, and hasn’t complained or made a fuss. I’m sure you’ll all agree Jess is an absolute “Super” Hero and to Selina, you too are a hero and we wish you a speedy recovery - Jess is a credit to you.
It was a pleasure to meet you and your family - and thanks for the rainbow!' ?
