A quiet Aughton car park was a hive of activity of Saturday as local beekeepers held a fascinating open day.
The Ormskirk and Croston Beekeepers Association have a number of hives on the former Cockbeck bowling green with over 150 visitors discovering more about this worthwhile hobby.
And members were pleased to welcome Stephen Barnes, Chair of the British Beekeepers Association, to officially open their new apiary site.
They also took the opportunity to hold an open day for local residents to explain their work; the event featured live bees in a glass observation hive to enable visitors to see bees close up.
Folk also heard talks about beekeeping and had a chance to taste and buy delicious locally produced honey.
The association undertakes a series of open days and other events in the West Lancashire, St Helens and Wigan areas as well as running an introductory beekeeping course - full details here: https://www.ormskirkbeekeepers.org.uk
