A 'FABS' new fitness class designed specifically for the over-60s is being launched in Ormskirk as part of a national campaign to help people stay active and independent as they get older.
Active West Lancs has teamed up with the MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! ® programme, (developed by the Centre for Healthy Ageing Research at the University of Birmingham), to bring these classes to help older adults here live healthier, happier lives for longer. The exercises are suitable for everyone whatever their ability or mobility and can be done seated, standing or with chair support.
Each class incorporates exercises to improve Flexibility, Aerobics, Balance and Strength (FABS) with Margaret Wilkinson, specialist instructor for MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! ®, on a mission to improve the strength and overall health of the over-60s community and encouraging them to come along to an exercise class with a difference!
This evening Margaret said: “I’m thrilled to be starting MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! ® classes in West Lancashire.
"I want to get this age group feeling great about themselves again. We ensure there's a warm welcome for everyone who attends and the first session they attend is free.
“The classes aren't about people dressing in lycra ready to hit the gym or doing a high intensity session, they are for people who want to improve their fitness and remain independent and active for longer. They are a fantastic way to socialise, make new friends, keep fit and have fun whilst doing it."
Classes cost £5 each after the first free session, and will be taking place every Thursday starting on 13 February between 10am-11am at Emmanuel Church, Derby Street and Brookside Retirement Living, Aughton Street from 2-3pm. Places are limited and booking is essential.

I think that it is really important to take care of staying fit when you are young not to bother much about your shape as you are getting older because it is much easier to maintain good shape than to achieve it. I have been doing fitness for the last two years and my life changed a lot for this time. Now I feel more confident in front of people, now I am stronger, now I have more friends. There are many benefits. That's why now I want to improve my body more and I hope micronized Six Star creatine will help me
