Report: Irene Slack, Secretary, Ormskirk Community Partnership
Keen cricketing fans will have noticed Ormskirk Community Partnership’s Gingerbread star player is back in the crease outside the Cricketers in his smart new kit.
Last year, our keen batsman was “borrowed” from his prime place in the dead of night; with no witnesses to his kidnap, it was difficult to trace where he’d been taken to.
Messages appealing for his return were placed on-line and in our local newspapers with social media coming up with some clues. Then, just as mysteriously as he had disappeared, our “Man of the match” suddenly re-appeared looking rather worse for wear but nonetheless, very welcome.
Ormskirk Community Partnership and Dave Speak, manager of the Cricketers, then planned a makeover for our well-loved Gingerbread model.
In conjunction with a local firm and funded by the Cricketers Pub, OCP arranged for the model to be invisibly mended, given a coat of paint, brand new “whites” and it now stands proudly outside the Cricketers’ entrance.
All ready for a new season, our much missed and famous Gingerbread model is glad to be back on his home ground!
