QLocal reporter Roger Blaxall's got to the bottom of 'phantom' roadworks on one of the busiest roads in Ormskirk.
For the last few days, an area of Southport Road's been coned off with two Cadent (Gas) vans parked there on Friday.
Since then nothing's happened; the roadworks were removed earlier today after Blaxall contacted the Cadent PR office; it looks like the firm has cancelled them for a day or two as this statement from its NW PR officer Kevin Hegarty explains:
'We’re doing some upgrade work at various places around our underground network in the North West, including here in Southport Road.
'One of the first things our team will do on arriving at site is to check for gas readings – and, in this instance, they found a small amount of gas, which indicates a leak.
'This is not safe for them to continue and they called in a specialist repair team.
'The leak has now been fixed, which means the upgrade work can start, a little later than planned but – importantly – in a safe way.
'The upgrade work will take a number of days and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we complete it.
It’s essential work to keep gas flowing safely to homes in the local area.'
