Members of The Rotary Club of Ormskirk Clocktower recently planted purple crocus corms at St Michael's church, Aughton, Ormskirk parish church, Lathom Chapel and in Skelmersdale.
We hope these will flower in the spring and give pleasure locally and to the church community!
The crocus are a symbol of the Rotary International project to end polio in the world. Its colour represents the purple painted on the little fingers of children who receive a vaccination to prevent this dreadful disease, which, thanks to the efforts of Rotary, is now only endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan; only this year Africa was declared ‘polio free’!
