Report: Brian Brighouse
Bar 22 continue to lead the Ormskirk and District Pool League, after another win, this time 4 {5} – 3 away against last seasons champions, the Queen Inn.
This win sees them extend their lead to 14 points as we reach the half way stage of the 2018/19 season. The big battle at the moment appears to be the challenge for 2nd and 3rd spot, with the running order of the chasing four switching regularly. After a shock heavy loss the previous week the Bridge join the ‘Inn’ on 56 points, after a 6 {7} - 1 victory over the Railway, the ‘Bars’ nearest challengers. But sitting just behind them on 54 points are the Stanley Club and the 22 Club, although the result has yet to be posted the ‘Stanley’ had a 6 {7} - 1 victory over the Queens Head. The Farmers won for only the third time this season, winning by the odd game away at the 22 Club. Unfortunately, the Queen Head's head have not submitted their scorecard, although the result is known the actual frame by frame score is not known, meaning I am unable to give an accurate report on the chase for player of the year at this point in time. There is then a 7-point gap to La Cantina A who had a 5 {6} – 2 victory away at Shaw Hall. Shaw Hall and the Bridge Dogs are another 7 points behind the pace, Bridge Dogs having a similar win against La Cantina B.With 50% of matches still to play there is still plenty of time left for teams to make ground and challenge for honours. Each team will be asked to select a player of the season and the players chosen will receive a trophy, so there is still something left for everyone to play for
