This particular week saw new leaders in what could be a pivotal week of results inthe top flight of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. Olympic BC B moved to the top of the league with a comprehensive 5-1 triumph at the expense of Red Lion Social Club B. They quickly raced into a 4-0 lead and the last two frames of the contest were shared.

This outcome sees the Walton boys sit one point clear of
their nearest rival and a possible four-way battle for the title is highly likely were they are looking for the first Division One crown. The match also saw Olympic B's Paul Williams in top form, once again, as he compiled a superb 57 clearance in his frame success to seal this week's 'Break of the Week' prize, his second successive award and third of the current campaign. Also in fine nick was Olympic B's Steve Evans Snr as he engineered a terrific break of 51 in his frame win.

Paul's break began with him holding a handy twenty two point advantage and four reds of the frame remaining. He potted his first red and gained excellent position on the pink ball and after dispatching that ball he quickly potted a further two reds, with a pink and black, to seal proceedings in that authoritative and quick fire style of his. After potting the final red ball of the frame he finished slightly the wrong side of the black and with the yellow ball lying near the black Paul had to send the cue ball on a journey in and out of baulk. He playing the shot to near perfection but it still left him an very awkward yellow. Paul potted a fine yellow going up the table for the green ball. Green, brown, blue and pink followed but he over screwed the cue ball on that pink ball and finished with a very low percentage black were he had to double it full length of the table, using the rest too, into the green pocket. Amazingly, Paul managed to pot that black ball and complete a fantastic 57 clearance.

Aughton Institute E continue their excellent form and this time they completed their ninth win of the season with a solid 5-1 home victory over struggling Scarisbrick NSC. This result sees them move into second place in the league standings and sit just that single point off the pace-setters. A continuation of this form in the next few matches will see them seriously pushing for honours this term. The match also saw Aughton E's Richie Spring Jnr in great touch with an excellent break of 47 in his frame win.

Fleetwood Hesketh SSC sat out their free week this time around and this saw them drop into third position in the table. They are now three points off the leaders and they now have an all important match in hand over the two sides directly above them and remain favourites to lift the Division One crown for a staggering seventh successive season.

Red Lion Social Club A went into battle with Olympic BC A and at the end of the match it saw a surprising 3-3 stalemate reached. The Red Lion A team moved into a 3-1 lead but much credit must go to the Olympic A lads as they captured the last two frames of the encounter to share the spoils. This outcome see the Maghull based side drop into fourth spot in the league proceedings and find themselves seven point off the pace but they do have an important match in hand over the top two teams.

In form Lathom & Burscough RBL clashed with Aughton Institute A this week and it saw a 4-2 reversal for the Burscough outfit after an excellent performance by the very capable Aughton Institute A boys. The Aughton A side were sealing their second consecutive fine win and in this particular match they grabbed the first two very close frames to open up a 2-0 advantage and maintain their lead to the end of the match. This outcome sees the Lathom & Burscough team continue in fifth slot in the table. Meanwhile, Aughton Institute A, surprisingly, drop into seventh in the league table despite their fine victory.

The other match played this week saw Upholland Social get straight back to winning
ways after last week's reversal with a fine 5-1 home win over Rainford X SSC. This was the Upholland Social lads fifth win of the current campaign and saw them move up a place in the standings and into sixth place.

Other notable break this week was – R Wilson (Aughton Institute E) 40

The Division One merit table still sees Scarisbrick NSC at the head of proceedings despite their heavy defeat this time and but managed to maintain their four point lead, they lie on 91 points. Rainford X SSC continue in second place despite their heavy reversal this week, they sit those four points off the leaders and are currently on 87 points. Third position is now solely held by Lathom & Burscough RBL even after their reversal this particular week, they sit on 81 points.

    Division 2

As in the First Division, we might well of seen a pivotal week in Division Two this time around. Leaders, St Cuthberts went into battle with mid table Skelmersdale Wardens B and it saw an excellent display by the Skelmersdale B lads in sealing a 4-2 away triumph. The match saw the first four frames shared but the victors upped their game and took the final two frames of the contest to seal their win. This outcome sees the Halsall based pace-setters advantage halved to just two points from their nearest rival, the Skelmersdale Wardens B team move up a place into sixth. The match also saw Skelmersdale B's Terry Evans in good touch with a break of 21 in his frame success.

Meanwhile, title challengers Skelmersdale Wardens A go marched on as this particular week they recorded their seventh successive victory, a superb achievement!! They went into battle with Stanley Club C and came away with a 4-2 win, their twelfth of the current campaign. It should also be mentioned that they last tasted defeat way back on 18th October. This result sees them sit those two points off the leaders and on current form can be regarded as favourites to lift the Second Division title.

Stanley Club B came up against Aughton Institute B this time around and at the end of the evening prevailed with a 4-2 away success. The match was delicately poised at 2-2 but the Burscough outfit claimed the last two frames of the contest to clinch their win. This outcome sees them continue in third place in the league standings lying some nine points off top spot.

Farmers Club made it double figures and counting of victories for the current season as they ended their night's work with a 4-2 home success at the expense of struggling Aughton Institute C. This result sees them unchanged in league position were they lie in fourth position just two points adrift of the side directly above them.

The other match played this week saw Skelmersdale Wardens C clash with
struggling Reigning Champions, Aughton Institute D and it saw the Skelmersdale C lads come out on top with a 4-2 victory, their third win from their last four matches. This outcome sees the Skelmersdale C side remain in fifth in the league proceedings whilst the Aughton D outfit drop into seventh spot.
